At Kraken 3D Studios, our mission has always been to take tabletop adventures to the next level. With that vision in mind, we launched our Kickstarter campaign Kraken Fantasy Dungeons, a fully modular dungeon system packed with detailed miniatures and 3D-printable terrain that transforms any session into an unforgettable quest.
Back in 2021, when Kraken Studios was just a dream fueled by passion and late-night creativity, a small team of artists and creators came together during one of the most challenging years in recent memory. With limited time, few resources, and a lot of heart, we built something that would mark the beginning of an exciting journey. Kraken Fantasy Dungeons was our first major step into the world of 3D-printed gaming—and the campaign that laid the foundation for what would soon become Kraken 3D Studios, a full-fledged creative studio dedicated to digital sculpting, prototyping, and storytelling through 3D printing.
What Was Included in the Campaign
This project delivered a massive collection of printable STL files, including:
Over 200 modular terrain pieces: Fully compatible with popular tabletop RPGs like Heroquest, Warhammer Quest, Dungeoneers Descent,Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder. Easily assemble custom dungeons for your own narrative-driven games.
Highly detailed miniatures: A diverse range of heroes, monsters, and NPCs, each crafted to bring fantasy worlds to life.
Interactive accessories: From deadly traps to secret doors and treasure chests, these elements add depth and excitement to every game.
Smart connection system: Our innovative design allows pieces to fit together without the need for clips or magnets, making it easier than ever to set up and dismantle your scenarios.
Stretch goals unlocked: Thanks to our amazing backers, we added new monsters, hidden rooms, ruined corridors, and ancient relics to enrich your campaigns.
KRAKEN TECHNOLOGY
Developing Kraken Fantasy Dungeons was an exciting challenge for our team. We set out to create a system that was not only visually stunning but also modular, intuitive, and compatible with common 3D printers.
Here’s what happened behind the curtain:
Design with gamers in mind: We studied what players needed to bring their tabletop worlds to life, then sculpted pieces that balanced aesthetics and practicality.
Prototyping and testing: Using printers like the Creality Ender 3 for PLA terrain and Formlabs Form 3 for resin miniatures, we tested every element to ensure printability across devices.
Optimized STL files: All files were cleaned and optimized for hassle-free printing with high detail and minimal support requirements.
